An alternative to MemoriesExport: 500 free, then $5
Updated
MemoriesExport does the same job: real dates, GPS and overlays back into a Snapchat export. It comes three ways: an online version that processes your export on its servers, desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and a browser mode that works on your own computer without uploading. This site is only the browser way, so the honest differences are price, the free tier, phones, and what happens to video captions.
| MemoriesExport | KeepMySnaps | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | First 100 memories free, then $9.99 once. | First 500 files free, then $5 once. |
| Where files are processed | Online version: on their servers. Desktop app and browser mode: on your computer. | In the browser tab. Nothing uploaded. |
| What you install | Nothing for the online version or browser mode; an app for the desktop version. | Nothing. |
| On a phone | They advertise the online version for phones, which uploads your export. | The same web page, in your phone's browser, nothing uploaded. |
| Dates, GPS, captions | All three. Captions drawn onto photos online and in the browser; onto videos too in the desktop app. | All three, with captions drawn into videos too, right in the browser. |
| Videos on the Apple Photos map | Yes, they say. | Yes, tested in Apple Photos. |
| Long videos cut into clips | Not advertised. | Joined back into one file when the order is certain. |
When MemoriesExport is the better choice
If you want an installed desktop app that also draws captions into videos, theirs is a reasonable one, and it works offline.
When this one is the better choice
- You want video captions without installing anything. Their browser mode draws captions onto photos; for videos you need their desktop app. This draws them into videos right here in the tab.
- You want to try more before paying. 500 free here against 100.
- You're counting the cost. $5 against $9.99 for the rest.
- You're on a phone and don't want to upload. The version they advertise for phones is the online one, which uploads your export. This page works in any phone browser with nothing uploaded, and you can check that by turning off your Wi-Fi once it has loaded.
